Jonathan studied law at the University of Malta and after obtaining a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree was admitted to the Maltese Bar. Jonathan worked in the financial, corporate, maritime, and legal sectors and gained considerable experience in corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
